Dark Humor TV Shows

To optimize chillin’ like a villain, peruse these dark humor TV shows to find the one right for you.

Keep in mind dark humor is satire that addresses ugly topics (torture, for example, and environmental disaster, serial killings, or even simply fear). It’s not going to be pretty. SoΒ  I’ve taken the liberty of adding a gross factor rating.

With that, I’ll leave you to the light side of the dark side.

Real estate agent Sheila Hammond sells houses. But now that she’s joined the undead, asking her husband to help murder her dinner is a tougher deal.

I don’t want to say high hopes. I had semi hopes for this comedy. However, after subjecting myself to ten episodes, it’s hopeless.

The language was the most horrifying thing. My ears are still bleeding. Although favorites castmates from The Grinder reunite for this comedy, the crass slapstick failed on all account.

Ousted Chicago Detective Jim Longworth may be too smart-mouthed for his own good.

A mandatory transfer sentences him to Florida. There, the climate is just as much of a crime as his cases. Eccentric and emotional! Strong subplots and an unconventional romance take this average cookie-cutter crime show to another level.

Past sins haunt the new pledges of Kappa Kappa Tau. And the girls must team up with the preppy fraternity as a masked red devil terrorizes their Greek lives.

The premise and incredible cast drew me in as a viewer, but I was immediately repelled by the exaggerated stereotypes and tropes. The showβ€”at least the first seasonβ€”is as shallow as Kappa president Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts).

If you’re looking for a lighter dark humor show to try, start with iZombie (review below).

FBI Agent Ryan Hardy captured serial killer Joe Carroll, but they’ve both been living in a prison. Although Ryan has spent the years holed up, Joe has cultivated a massive following outside his confines.

A jailbreak serves as an impetus for Carroll’s cult of young murderers to activate his plan.

. . . How do I put this? Never have I jumped so much and laughed so hard at a TV series. Twist and turmoil deliver on every account. In. Tense. Oh, and as much as you know romance thrills me, it’s the sick bromance between Hardy and Carroll that I reveled in.

Don’t think it’s too daunting. Unlike Criminal Minds, this series didn’t leave me in nightmares or paranoia. A fact I was very thankful for when I marathon-ed through itΒ  living alone.

A doctor who specializes in sarcasm and diagnostics can cure everyone’s pain but his own.

The show is intense and a little insane at times. But Dr. House isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions. . . Or the heart questions. Medical mysteries showcase a widespread of human advances and limitations.

Only “one more episode” will cure your addiction.

If you’re not watching closely, you just might miss this superhero. Barry Allen (aka the Flash) holds the power of super speed and uses it to defend Central City.

In the thick of battling evil, Barry is known to wield some witty punches. He’s not the only one though. In the lab, tech Cisco Ramon holds his own.

In order to crack the case, Medical Examiner Liv Moore (I’m just gonna let that sink in for a minute.) cracks open the victim’s skull to get a taste of the trauma he/she experienced. The breakthroughs “her” memory flashbacks provide are similar to Psych and The Finder.

Liv revives the strong main heroine archetype missing since Veronica Mars and Buffy.

That, however, is not why I tried out the pilot and proceeded to watch so many episodes thatΒ IΒ felt like the undead. As a fan of Robert Buckley‘s from his days onΒ One Tree Hill, I was excited to see him as the primary love interest.

Did. not. disappoint. He delivers some major feels of the series.

But it’s not just Buckley that brings it.

Between the clueless bestie and the zombie villain you love to hate and hate that you love, the entire cast has a real flair for the traumatic.

Which dark humor series will be your next show?

My name is Nicholeβ€”Nichole Parks. Not to be confused with Nicholas Sparks. Nicky boy handles the drama. And me? I take on the trauma. Dark humor is my specialty.
